Product Page Mismatch? Evidence to Collect Before Checkout

September 4, 2026 / CigPilot

Direct answer: if a product title, image, SKU, quantity, price basis or policy statement does not agree, stop before checkout. Capture the live URL and time, record the selected option and visible fields, identify the exact conflict, then ask support to confirm the controlling information. Do not guess from a cached search result, a similar pack colour or an unclear phrase, and do not send payment credentials or unnecessary identity documents.

The goal is not to collect more screenshots than anyone can review. It is to create a small evidence pack that lets support answer one precise question: “Do these two records describe the same item and order terms?”

Classify the mismatch first

Different conflicts require different evidence. Put the issue into one of these five lanes:

Mismatch lane Example of the question Minimum evidence
Identity Title and image appear to name different variants URL, exact title, readable image wording, SKU
Quantity Page says carton but cart appears to show another unit Sale-unit wording, quantity, cart line, timestamp
Transaction Product page and cart show different AUD totals Selected option, page amount, cart amount, delivery state
Policy Product text and policy page give different delivery or return terms Both URLs, exact conflicting sentences, dates checked
Search-result drift Search snippet describes a page that is gone or changed Search phrase, result URL, current final URL or error, date

Do not combine these into one vague message such as “the product is wrong.” A title-image conflict can be investigated without deciding a price issue. A policy conflict can be resolved without making a claim about product identity.

Use the four-part evidence method

Stop: do not carry uncertainty into payment

Do not use checkout to test which description is correct. If the product page, cart or policy is unclear, leave the order unsubmitted and open the current CigPilot payment and ordering guidance. It asks readers to confirm the current product URL, selected option, visible AUD amount, cart total and policy notes before following payment instructions.

An old search snippet is a discovery clue, not current transaction evidence. A retired URL may continue appearing in Search Console or search results after its product record is removed. Recreating a page solely because an old phrase received an impression would risk presenting a product that is not in the current catalogue.

Capture: save only the fields that identify the problem

Record:

  • canonical product URL;
  • date, time and timezone;
  • exact page title;
  • selected option or variation, if any;
  • SKU or another site identifier;
  • displayed sale unit and quantity;
  • visible AUD price basis and cart total, if relevant;
  • delivery state or postcode only when needed for the question;
  • screenshot of the conflicting area;
  • one sentence naming the conflict.

The screenshot should include enough surrounding context to show which field it represents. A cropped number without the product title, unit or selected option is difficult to interpret.

Compare: keep two columns and one question

Write the page claim and the conflicting claim side by side. Preserve the wording instead of summarising it as “same” or “different.”

Field Record A Record B Result
Product name Exact page wording Exact image, cart or snippet wording Match, conflict or unreadable
Variant Exact descriptor Exact descriptor Match, conflict or missing
SKU Site SKU Other visible identifier Match, conflict or not comparable
Sale unit Pack/carton wording Cart or policy wording Match or conflict
Date Capture time Source date, if known Current, historical or unknown

Do not force identifiers from different systems to match. A site SKU and a barcode may both be useful, but they are not automatically the same kind of identifier.

Contact: ask for a bounded answer

Use the current CigPilot contact page. A useful message asks support to confirm one field and includes the current URL. It should not ask support to infer sensory experience, health effects, legality in an unspecified place or the authenticity of a pack from one blurry image.

Copyable support request

The following template is designed for a pre-check, not an editorial correction or change-log request:

Subject: Product page field confirmation before checkout
Current URL:
Page title:
Selected option:
SKU:
Field that appears inconsistent:
Page wording:
Other wording or image observation:
Date and time checked:
Delivery state, only if relevant:
Question for support: Which wording and sale unit control this order?

Attach one or two focused screenshots. Do not include a full payment card number, account password, bank login, security code or unrelated identity document. If age or identity verification is required, use only the site’s designated verification process after confirming that it is legitimate; do not email sensitive documents simply because a product field is unclear.

How to handle vague phrases

A vague phrase such as “taste boosted” does not identify a current product by itself. It may be a searcher’s wording, an old snippet, a translated phrase, a retailer descriptor or a fragment detached from its original page. It does not establish a flavour, capsule function, sensory outcome, composition, market edition or current stock.

Search the current CigPilot catalogue by exact product and variant wording. If there is no matching live record, preserve the phrase as the user’s search language and ask support whether a current page exists. Do not redirect the phrase to an unrelated product merely because its name or image seems similar.

This approach also prevents an SEO problem: a retired query should not be used to manufacture a thin replacement page that competes with live product URLs. Current inventory and verifiable reader need should control the content decision.

When the conflict concerns delivery or returns

Use the CigPilot shipping and returns policy as the site-level source rather than copying a sentence from a product screenshot. The policy checked for this draft describes Australia-wide delivery, an estimated 3–5 business-day timeframe, and returns or exchanges requested within 14 days of delivery for products that remain unopened, sealed and in original condition. Orders remain subject to payment confirmation, stock and any required adult verification.

If another page differs, send both URLs and the exact conflicting lines. Do not silently choose whichever statement is more favourable.

If the problem is discovered after purchase

Keep the order confirmation, receipt, page capture and photographs of what was received. The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission says that goods supplied to consumers must match their description, among other consumer guarantees. Its consumer rights guidance and remedy problem solver explain the general framework.

The remedy depends on the facts, so a support article should not promise a particular outcome. For evidence handling, business.gov.au notes that receipts and photographs may be relevant complaint documents. This is general information and not legal advice.

What evidence cannot establish

Even a tidy evidence pack cannot, by itself, prove:

  • authenticity or country of origin;
  • equivalence between market editions;
  • manufacturer, owner and distributor relationships;
  • health, safety or relative-risk differences;
  • sensory effects;
  • current legal availability at every address;
  • guaranteed stock, acceptance or delivery time.

Australian tobacco packaging is regulated and standardised. Government product and packaging guidance should control regulatory questions, while the live page and policy control current CigPilot catalogue wording. Keep those source roles separate.

Adult and health notice

This guide is intended only for adults aged 18 and over. Smoking is harmful to health, nicotine is addictive, and tobacco products should be kept away from children. It does not recommend a product, infer flavour or strength, encourage tobacco use, or advise bypassing age, payment, delivery or regulatory controls.

The safest response to a mismatch is simple: stop, capture the relevant evidence, compare the exact fields and contact support before checkout.

Editorial method, sources and policy check

Editorial check: Checked by the CigPilot editorial team against the sources listed on this page.

Method: The editorial team walked through the mismatch workflow using current catalogue, contact, ordering and shipping records, keeping title, image, SKU, quantity and price as separately verifiable fields. Consumer-guidance links already cited in the article were checked for escalation context.

Contact and policy check (4 September 2026): The current CigPilot contact page lists support@cigscope.com and WhatsApp +44 7366482114. The site’s own shipping and returns policy states delivery to all regions of Australia with an estimated delivery time of 3–5 business days. Applicable delivery charges are shown separately at checkout. Orders remain subject to payment confirmation, stock availability and any required adult age or identity verification. Unopened products may be returned or exchanged within 14 days of delivery if they remain sealed and in their original condition; customers must contact support before sending an item back. The policy states that it does not exclude rights that cannot lawfully be excluded.

Transparency limits: The pages checked did not provide or independently verify a legal operator name, physical or returns address, ABN, licence, specific payment provider, or medical, legal or other professional reviewer qualifications. The editorial check above is source verification only; it is not medical, legal or other professional review.

Sources and records checked

Source check date: 4 September 2026.

Image source and scope: Manchester Royal Red pack from CigPilot's existing product gallery, used as an example of fields to compare when a listing and pack disagree. Image source: CigPilot WordPress media library, media ID 463; associated product record; original image file; checked 4 September 2026. The image appears in the existing Manchester Royal Red product gallery. It is not proof of authenticity, current stock or the exact supplied batch, and rights provenance beyond the site's existing media record was not independently verified.

Next step: Compare this record with the current product checkpoint and note the observation date.
